Notes for Lecture 3 Some Consequences of the Pcp Theorem

چکیده
Let now φ be an instance of 3SAT with n variables x1, . . . , xn and m clauses. For each variable xi, let occi be the number of occurrences of xi, that is, the number of clauses that involve the literal xi or the literal x̄i. We write xi ∈ Cj if the variable xi occurs in clause Cj . Notice that ∑n i=1 occi = 3m. For each i, construct a 1-expander graph Gi = (Vi, Ei) where Vi has occi vertices, one for each occurrence of xi in φ. We denote the vertices of Vi as pairs [i, j] such that xi occurrs in Cj . Each of these graphs has constant degree d.

Factors affecting students tendency of Univercity students to Lecture Notes
Introduction: Many studies detected factors contributing to the students’ tendency to lecture notes. This study aimed at evaluating the factors affecting students tendency to lecture notes in Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. Methods: In this descriptive study, 179 students from medicine, nursing & midwifery, health, and Paramedicine schools were selected through stratified random...
متن کاملLecture 17 : Hardness of Approximation
In this and the next few lectures we revisit the PCP Theorem with the aim of establishing tight inapproximability results for some natural NP-hard optimization problems. Earlier, we discussed the use of harmonic analysis in the derivation of the PCP Theorem. More specifically, in lecture 5 we devised tests for the Hadamard code and the long code, which play a critical role in the construction o...
متن کاملCSE 533 : The PCP Theorem and Hardness of Approximation ( Autumn 2005 ) Lecture 1 : Introduction
The PCP Theorem is concerned with the notion of “proofs” for mathematical statements. We begin with a somewhat informal definition: Definition 1.1. A traditional proof system works as follows: • A statement is given. (e.g., “this graph G = · · · is 3-colorable” or “this CNF formula F = (x1 ∨ x2 ∨ x10) ∧ · · · is satisfiable”). • A prover writes down a proof, in some agreed-upon format. • A veri...
متن کامل4.1 Walsh-hadamard Code (recap from Last Lecture)
In today’s lecture, we will construct exponential sized PCPs for NP. More formally, we will show that the NP-Complete problem, Circuit-Satisfiability (Circuit-SAT) is in PCP1,1−δ[O(n), O(1)] for some 0 < δ < 1. Recall that the PCP Theorem states that Circuit-SAT ∈ PCP1,1−δ[O(log n), O(1)]. However, as we will see in later lectures, the exponential sized PCPs for Circuit-SAT will be used in prov...
متن کاملNotes on Complexity Theory Lecture 22 1.1 a Pcp for Satisfiable Quadratic Equations: an Overview
We show here a probabilistically checkable proof for NP in which the verifier reads only a constant number of bits from the proof (and uses only polynomially many random bits). In addition to being of independent interest, this result is used as a key step in the proof of the PCP theorem itself. To show the desired result, we will work with the NP-complete language of satisfiable quadratic equa...
